The La Crosse Public Education Foundation’s Essentials for Student Learning & Achievement Fund helps students overcome road blocks to achievement by addressing needs in areas such as nutrition, transportation, academic and co-curricular support, and summer learning opportunities.

Foundation funds are turned over to building principals to use at their discretion to:

• Meet an individual student’s needs
• Enhance a student’s ability to learn
• Benefit a student whose family is struggling financially.

Last year $20,000 was awarded to the school district.  Examples of uses include:

• Alarm clocks
• Bus passes
• Snow boots/winter clothing
• Lab fees
• College entrance exam fees
• Graduation caps and gowns
• School district library book fines
• Taxi service to transport ill students/parents to conferences
• Field trip costs
• Instrument rental/sheet music
• Reading glasses
• Clothing for musical/theater performances
